The water cycle is the continuous journey water takes as it moves between the oceans, atmosphere, and land. Heat from the Sun evaporates water from oceans, rivers, and lakes, turning it into invisible water vapour that rises into the atmosphere.
The water cycle recycles the same water endlessly between the ocean, sky, and land, through evaporation, condensation, and precipitation, keeping fresh water flowing to every part of the planet.
| Part | Function |
|---|---|
| Evaporation | Sun heats water, turning it into vapour |
| Condensation | Vapour cools and forms clouds |
| Precipitation | Water falls as rain, snow, or hail |
| Collection | Water gathers in rivers, lakes, and oceans |
| Infiltration | Water soaks into the ground as groundwater |
