Q.1
Chromosome alignment and recompletion of nuclear division is called ... ...[ MPPMT 2012 ]
0%
a) Cytokinesis
0%
b) Cytomixis
0%
c) Karyokinesis
0%
d) Apomixis
Explanation
Alignment of chromososmes and separation into daughter cells which result in nuclear division forms the process of cytokinesis Karyokinesis is the process of division of the nucleus of a cell during the phase of division (mitosis or meiosis), whereas cytokinesis is the process of division of cytoplasm of the cell by which cell finally divides into daughter cells. It should be noted that karyokinesis takes place first and then comes the process of cytokinesis, later the process cytokinesis is then followed by division of a cell into daughter cells. Karyokinesis is also called as indirect nuclear division, where the nucleus passes through a sequence of events leading to the formation of two daughter nuclei. Answer: (a) Answer : (a)

d) 7, 7, 7
Explanation
G1 phase corresponds to the interval between mitosis and initiation of DNA replication. During G1 phase the cell is metabolically active and continuously grows but does not replicate its DNA. S or synthesis phase marks the period during which DNA synthesis or replication takes place. During this time the amount of DNA per cell doubles. If the initial amount of DNA is denoted as 2C then it increases to 4C. However, there is no increase in the chromosome number; if the cell had diploid or 2n number of chromosomes at G1, even after S phase the number of chromosomes remains the same, i.e., 2n. During S phase, chromosomes replicate to give rise to two identical sister chromatids. These sister chromatids remain attached at their kinetochores. Hence there is no increase in number of chromosomes during S phase even though DNA replicates to increase its amount. In short G1 is growth phase, S phase- DAN synthesis, G2Growth and preparation for Mitosis, M-Mitosis Cell division Answer : (b)

b) Prophase

d) late telophase
Explanation
During interphase (called the S phase), the cell duplicates its chromosomes and ensures its systems are ready for cell division The main occurrences in prophase are the condensation of the chromatin and the disappearance of the nucleolus In late prophase (sometimes also called prometaphase), the mitotic spindle begins to capture and organize the chromosomes During late telophase, the chromosomes de-condense as the histones assume a relaxed state Answer : (a)
